RAI, Luce pact to create film library

Archive to hold 325,000 hours of Italian cinema

ROME -- Italian state broadcaster RAI and the national film archive body Instituto Luce said Thursday that they will join forces to create one of the world's largest film libraries.

The plan will combine the archives of the two companies into a single body that will include about 325,000 hours of film, more than 12,000 newsreels, and 6,000 documentaries -- much of it unseen by the public. The companies will also work together to promote sales from the archive.
