Although NBC passed on a proposed Dwight-centered Office spinoff, Rainn Wilson will stay on TV. He'll play an offensive detective in CBS' adaptation of Backstrom, based on the Swedish book series from criminologist-novelist Leif G.W. Persson. The pilot will see Wilson play Detective Everett Backstrom, a man with no filter who is tasked with heading Portland's new Special Crimes Group.

Lepore was charged with rape in January, later pleading guilty to a lesser charge

Rainn Wilson's production company will no longer be working with a controversial Vine star.

Wilson's SoulPancake has dropped Curtis Lepore from its in-development comedy series Hollywood and Vine after backlash over Lepore having been charged with rape.

"After much consideration, the decision was made with Curtis Lepore to mutually part ways on SoulPancake's television project featuring Vine stars," Wilson wrote Oct. 24 on Facebook. "We felt this was the best decision for everyone involved. We wish Curtis all the best in all his future endeavors."

SoulPancake had announced Monday that it is developing Hollywood and Vine as a scripted series to star Lepore and four other personalities from six-second video site Vine as they attempt to convert their online success into Hollywood gigs.

The news led to an uproar because Lepore's ex-girlfriend, fellow Vine star Jessi "Smiles" Vazquez, had filed rape charges against him in January. Lepore took a plea deal in the case, pleading guilty to felony assault in February 2014.

It is not clear whether Lepore's part on the show will be recast.
