RUDIN GETS MORE SOCIAL Nothing can heal an old feud like an Oscar campaign. One of the most famous Hollywood memos ever leaked was Scott Rudin’s to then-Paramount vp special projects Allison Jackson, regarding the guest list for the premiere of his 1998 film The Truman Show. “The only thing separating my hands from your neck is the fact that there are three thousand miles between us,” Rudin so graciously wrote. Now Jackson — whom Rudin called a “low-level flunky” — has been hired to work on Rudin’s campaign for The Social Network. Clearly, his hands never reached her neck. “I have not been hired by Scott Rudin. I was hired by Sony,” says Jackson, who runs the Allison Jackson Co. “But Scott and I have talked, and I get a Christmas card every year. I don’t see him often, but when I do, he’s lovely.”

Russell Runs From Pascal
In between getting honored every other night, The Fighter’s David O. Russell has been trying to finish Uncharted, his video-game movie for Sony that stars Robert De Niro and Mark Wahlberg. “And every time I see Amy Pascal, which is almost every night, I want to dive under the table. I’m two days late!” said Russell at the DGA Awards. “I’m writing in the middle of the night. Lucky for me, she’s very understanding. She’s got other things on her mind right now.”

Double Date With Oscar
The entertainment community is still reeling from Melissa Leo’s Critics’ Choice Awards confession — in front of the whole world, including future directors – that she’s 50 years old. “It’s so silly that anyone was shocked!” said The Fighter actress, who just scored her second Oscar nom, at the DGAs. “I was raised by hippies and always had the freedom to be who I am.” Will it affect her love life? Doesn’t she realize that most Hollywood men her age date much younger women? “Well, f--- them if they do! If these men want to date some little idiots, let them.” Leo said she didn’t have a date for the evening. “But now I’m a double Oscar nominee! If that doesn’t get me a date, what will?”

True Grist
Legions of angry twitterers are not the only Inception fans boiling mad over the lack of a best director Oscar nomination for Christopher Nolan. Now a vp of the Directors Guild — which did nominate him — is also on a rant about it. “Inception is my first choice for best picture and best director,” Paris Barclay tells THR. “Chris not getting an Oscar nom puzzles me. Academy — what were you thinking? You can’t even compare Inception to True Grit. True Grit is hardly the Coens’ best movie. Inception was difficult to accomplish, utterly original, complex, visually stunning — but Chris still got emotion out of it. I just don’t get it.”

Lack of Information Highway
At age 51, Winter’s Bone Oscar nominee John Hawkes has seen his whole life change in the span of two months. In December, the same week Hawkes got an Independent Spirit Award nom for best supporting actor, two of his indie films were chosen for Sundance: Higher Ground and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Soon after, he grabbed a SAG nom, then Oscar came calling. But Hawkes was one of the last to know about any of it or whether his name was trending on Twitter. “I don’t own a computer,” he says. “And I’ve never been on the Internet.” So he’s never sent an e-mail or Googled his name? “Not yet,” he admits. “If anything important happens,  my girlfriend gets around to telling me.”
