Glee vs. KOL: Cease-Fire: The Cold War between Kings of Leon and Glee’s Ryan Murphy has thawed. And it’s all because Gwyneth Paltrow played peacemaker. To recap: After KOL refused Glee one of their songs, Ryan Murphy blurted in a THR cover story, “F--- you, KOL.” The group’s Nathan Followill fired back on Twitter, telling Murphy to “buy a new bra” (vitriol that Murphy termed “homophobic”), and the online battle was off to the races. But according to a source, Paltrow, a Glee guest star, orchestrated a détente via text messages between the warring parties, both apologized and “it’s all good now.” Indeed, Glee’s Matthew Morrison approached KOL on the Grammy carpet, saying, “We love Kings of Leon.” Proving it, Glee cast members Darren Criss and Chord Overstreet popped into KOL’s amazing private after-Grammy party at Trousdale, with Criss belting out the lyrics to KOL’s “Sex on Fire.” Neither Murphy nor the band would comment.
Anderson Cooper: Oscar Week Live
Anderson Cooper is heading to Los Angeles for Oscar Week — but not for reportage. It’s to celebrate his mother, fashion icon Gloria Vanderbilt, the subject of a new Abrams photo book, The World of Gloria Vanderbilt. Ralph Lauren is so enamored of it, he has published a $250 limited edition, sold only in his boutiques. On Feb. 23, Cooper and Kelly Meyer will co-host a fete for the book at Lauren’s Robertson Boulevard store. When Cooper realized that the event fell during Oscar Week, he told the Lauren people: “I love to be out in L.A. during the Academy Awards. I’ll do my show from there.”
Campaigning With Camp
This year’s crop of nominees are being shepherded to a host of voter-heavy private parties, with two of the most starry thrown by actress/producer-turned-party planner Colleen Camp. Barbra Streisand and Mel Gibson showed up for one at Camp’s home for The Fighter. The next week, she hosted one for Black Swan at Sunset Tower, bringing out Mick Jagger and Scarlett Johansson. Camp’s parties are such a hit, she’s being dubbed “the Peggy Siegal of the West Coast.” But does everyone know that, as a source says, they are given in conjunction with the studios? Camp couldn’t be reached for comment.
Ray Stark: The Restaurant
Although the legendary Ray Stark produced movies as iconic as Funny Girl and The Way We Were, his secret goal was to own a restaurant. Which is why his daughter Wendy Stark Morrissey has endowed LACMA with Ray’s and Stark Bar (Ray’s being the restaurant, Stark the place to imbibe) instead of a new wing. “I loved the idea of mixing food with culture; my father would have loved it, too,” she says. The spot is set to open in March. “Friends of my father’s are still alive, like Kirk and Anne Douglas. I can’t wait to see them in Ray’s and Stark.”
It seems not all celebrities have their stylists shop for them. On a recent afternoon at Barneys in Beverly Hills, Natalie Portman helped her mom Shelley Hershlag try on many awards-show dresses during the course of a few hours. The same day, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz were spotted on the second floor, where Rachel pored through dresses and Daniel stood by playing the dutiful boyfriend.
