Rambling Reporter at NYFW: Lil' Kim's Baby Bumping, Beyonce Dancing in the Crowd
On the last day of New York Fashion Week -- eight days in -- Lil' Kim sang to a fan leaving her afterparty, Beyonce hit the dance floor during her sis' DJ set and the ATL Twins admit what's propelled them through the week.
Those expecting Solange Knowles at her 1MSQFT X Solange + Saint Heron event held in the Meatpacking District on Wednesday night got a bonus: her sister, Beyonce. Guests lined up in the cold for over 20 minutes before doors opened to see custom video installations by artists Hisham Akira Bharoocha and Terence Nance, plus a hall of gold chains and speaker stacks designed by Solange and musical performances by Moses Sumney and Kelela, as advertised. But Beyonce was also in the crowd, dancing among guests as Solange spun, without any special treatment (or bodyguards staring down on top of her) -- drawing slack-jawed stares at one point -- before she hit the R&B video karaoke booth with her sister.
A baby on board does not mean an early bedtime for Lil' Kim. While the rapper had not yet confirmed rumors that she is expecting her first child, she did present an almost undeniable package during her midnight performance at The Blonds afterparty at the Gilded Lily on Wednesday, hosted by MAC Cosmetics, and later announced to the crowd: "I'm a mom, but I can turn it up a little." She even rubbed her belly while singing at one point. "They're the motherf---ing baddest designers in the world!" she shouted about The Blonds to the crowd. To the surprise of the audience, the singer did not lip-sync, but sang live -- even while leaving. When a bodyguard for the venue cleared a full elevator so Lil' Kim and her crew could board it privately, an excited male fan who had been in the lift yelled, "Kim! I love you! 'How many licks does it take till you get to the center of the -- Uhhhhhh!' "
"I love my fans!" the singer said laughing before reciting her own lyrics back to him.
There are at least two people out there who don't have Fashion Week fatigue. At Jeremy Scott's party at Up&Down on Wednesday -- after his show where Jared Leto showed up, ombre hair and all -- the ATL Twins were trying to soak up every last minute of it. "We're supposed to go back to Atlanta tomorrow," said Sidney Sewell, one of the twins, who's main claim to fame is a joint appearance in Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers, and who, along with Joe Jonas, Ireland Baldwin, Anna Kendrick and Paris Hilton, have been a staple at Fashion Week parties this week. "But because of the snow, I hope it's canceled. There's just so many girls here. … A different girl every night" When asked how they are keeping their stamina up to go out every night, Sidney replied without skipping a beat: "Cocaine." Is that a joke from Spring Breakers?
