The Tampa Bay Rays home run slugger emerged as Major League Baseball's postseason breakout star.

Wonderfilm Media is set to produce a biopic on Tampa Bay Rays home run slugger Randy Arozarena.

Invincible screenwriter Brad Gann has been tapped to write the screenplay, with production on the scripted feature set for late 2021. The Rays lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but
Arozarena in his rookie postseason broke Barry Bonds’ home run record and Derek Jeter’s record for most hits by a rookie in a single postseason, among other milestones.

His Major League Baseball stardom was preceded by Arozarena escaping Cuba on a makeshift boat and landing in Mexico and finally the U.S. on his way to playoff baseball heroics.

“Randy’s story is so inspirational – his journey grabs at your heart and this film will explore the triumphs of the human spirit when driven and focused,” Wonderfilm’s Bret Saxon said in a statement.

Jeff Bowler and Saxon will produce for Wonderfilm. William J. Macdonald and Alex Zakrzeski, along with John Lewis and Gregg Backer, will executive produce.

Wonderfilm Media recently wrapped production on the supernatural horror film Lullaby, directed by John Leonetti, with Alcon, in Toronto.

Arozarena is repped by ISE Baseball.
