Rapid Eye plans to bow "Peepli" theatrically in Germany in the third quarter of this year. Described as a "comic gem," the feature is a satire of the real-life epidemic of farmer suicides in rural India.
"(This is) a true Indian art house film that entertains whilst telling a serious story," Rapid Eye boss Stephan Holl said.
"Peepli Live" was produced by Aamir Khan and UTV Motion Pictures. The Berlinale Special gala for "Peepli Live" is on Thursday.
