'Ratatouille' DVD tops in Italy

ROME -- "Ratatouille," the winner of this year's Oscar for animated feature, also is the champion of Italian DVD sales.

Though the final figures have not yet been calculated, marketing research company GFK-Italia said Monday that sales of the "Ratatouille" DVD will break Italy's one-week sales record, currently held by "Cars" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." Both of those sold about 57,000 copies in their first week, including sales to rental chains.

"Ratatouille" was released on DVD in Italy on Feb. 19.

The Disney-Pixar film was one of the highest-grossing films in the territory last year, taking in 17 million euros ($25.2 million).
