RBE to fly 'Kites' on over 2300 screens

Ratner readies English remix for U.S., overseas markets

NEW DELHI -- Reliance Big Pictures said it will release “Kites” this Friday on over 2,300 screens worldwide, which the banner claims would make the romantic drama the biggest global Indian release globally.

The release plan includes 1,800 screens in India and over 500 screens in major territories such as the U.S., U.K., and 33 other countries.

Starring Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan and Mexican actress Barbara Mori, the $20 million “Kites” is directed by Anurag Basu. A specially-edited English “remix” of the film by Brett Ratner (“Rush Hour”) will target mainstream U.S. and international audiences and will be released May 28.

“The movie’s universally appealing story is sure to enthrall viewers across the world and it deserves the largest release, not just in India, but also overseas. We have immense faith in the film and have supported it to the fullest in terms of marketing and distribution,” RBE CEO Sanjeev Lamba said in a statement.

The film is also being aggressively marketed by Los Angeles-based sales company IM Global, in which RBE recently acquired a majority stake for an undisclosed amount. IMG is also marketing RBE's “Raavan” and last year's “3 Idiots,” India’s all-time boxoffice champion.
