Recording Academy taps Peter Anton vp digital

Sony, Sportnet veteran will strategize online branding

The Recording Academy said Monday that it has named Peter Anton to the newly created role of vp digital media.

The digital-media department will work closely with the Academy's business units to identify and implement strategies that will benefit all constituent groups and strategize to move the Recording Academy brand forward in online.

"With more than 20 years in digital entertainment, music and technology at both small and large companies, Peter brings a wealth of experience to the Recording Academy by incorporating multiple disciplines that apply to today's world," said executive vp David Grossman, to whom Anton will report. "His background of forging ahead with projects in the early days of the digital new-media revolution is a huge asset."

Anton was senior vp of Sportnet, a division of the Wasserman Media Group, where he managed content and editorial strategy, marketing, operations and profit-and-loss responsibility for all online action-sports properties. He also oversaw Studio 411, a action-sports production and distribution studio.

Before that, Anton spent 11 years at Sony Corporation of America, rising to senior vp operations, production and design.
