The new company, led by Christian Mercuri, will handle Red Granite Pictures' international sales.

International sales executive and producer Christian Mercuri, who most recently served as co-president of Red Granite International (RGI), is launching Capstone Group, a new financing, production and full-service international sales company.

The Beverly Hills-based banner will debut at the upcoming Marche du Film in Cannes.

Funded through private equity in partnership with Jeanette Zhou of Jaguar Entertainment, Capstone Group aims to handle four to five big-budget, commercial theatrical films per year. As far as the type of projects he hopes to make, Mercuri says he's open to a variety of projects.

"If it’s a $100 million project and we love it we’ll do it. If it’s $1 million and we love it, we’ll do that as well," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "The primary focus will be for it to be theatrical feature films."

Red Granite will no longer have an international sales arm, and will instead focus on its production banner Red Granite Pictures. Capstone has entered into a three-year deal with Red Granite Pictures to handle international sales for the production company.

Danny Dimbort, who joined Red Granite with Mercuri in 2011, also will exit Red Granite and will serve as a sales consultant for the Capstone Group.

"We are thrilled to continue working seamlessly with Christian and Danny selling our films internationally through their exciting new venture,” said Joey McFarland on behalf of Red Granite. "Working with the two of them at Red Granite International the past seven years has been an amazing experience as they are truly the best in the world in handling independent theatrical films."

Before working at Red Granite, where he worked on films such as The Wolf of Wall Street and Dumb and Dumber To, Mercuri began his career at Millennium/Nu Image in 2002 as a member of the production department. He moved into international sales working alongside Millennium/Nu Image co-chairman Dimbort, where he was appointed president of international.

“In today’s world you have to be more than just a sales agent to be in a position to bring the very best theatrical titles to the buyers," said Mercuri. "Capstone Group is a powerful new global entity that not only provides fully supported international distribution but also financing at all levels allowing us to partner with top filmmakers from the very beginning of a film. Our new company is perfectly positioned for current market conditions and I am thrilled to be championing this exciting venture working with creative and skilled producers like Red Granite.”

He added that his immediate goal is "to finalize a number of other key strategic producer partnerships, which we will announce shortly.”
