Redbox Ending Instant Streaming Service
Redbox Instant just couldn't compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon.com
Redbox is back to focusing on its kiosks.
Streaming video service Redbox Instant, a joint operation between Verizon Communications and Outerwall's Redbox, is shutting down.
"The joint venture partners made this decision after careful consideration," the companies said in a statement. "The service had not been as successful as either partner hoped it would be."
Redbox Instant launched last year, but the $6 monthly service was never able to gain much of a foothold opposite more established rivals like Netflix.
The streaming service will end on Oct. 7. Subscribers will be notified about refund information on Oct. 10.
