Reed Midem to 'Rethink Production Business'

New initiative for international TV producers at MIPCOM

PARIS -- The 2009 October edition of MIPCOM will highlight international TV producers with a new initiative focused on "Rethinking the Production Business," organizers Reed Midem said Thursday.

Keynote speeches, conferences and global matchmaking opportunities will bring together small-screen producers from all over the world.

Highlights of the program include a keynote from "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening and executive producer Al Jean, program screenings by The WIT, a workshop offering hands-on tips for dealmaking plus a new Games2TV2Games summit highlighting the impact of gaming on the production biz.

MIPCOM is working closely with producers associations including PACT in the U.K., FAPAE in Spain, APT in Italy, the Dutch Association of Filmmakers and Television in the Netherlands and Screenwest and Film Victoria in Australia.

The world's biggest TV market is also hoping to attract a crowd despite the tough economic climate by offering financial incentives to new faces with a new registration offer of €650 ($905) to producers coming to the market for the first time.

"The production business has become a lot more complex and challenging in recent years. We are launching this exciting program to help producers find funding, new streams of revenue, international partners and meet up with top industry leaders," acting director of Reed Midem's Television Division, Laurine Garaude said in a statement. The two-day "Rethinking the Production Business" program will kick off on Oct. 5 in Cannes.
