Reel One, The Cartel Strike Movie Output Deal
The multiyear deal to co-develop 40 films expands a partnership that includes work on the recent Lifetime movie 'The Wrong Mother.'
Reel One Entertainment and The Cartel have unveiled a deal to co-develop around 40 new movies over three years for the U.S. and international markets.
Montreal-based indie producer Reel One and production and management company The Cartel say the multiyear movie output deal will start with the thrillers Eve of Abduction, set for a release in 2018, and the recently wrapped A Friend’s Obsession, starring Karissa Lee Staples.
Cartel and Reel One previously collaborated on six TV movies, including The Wrong Mother, starring Vanessa Marcil and Brooke Nevin for Lifetime, the crime thriller Deadly Exchange, and the 10-part police procedural series Ties That Bind, starring Kelli Williams and Jonathan Scarfe.
Reel One will handle worldwide distribution on the 40 titles, while The Cartel will provide investment. On the scripted side, Reel One is developing a sci-fi series based on the Philip K Dick novella Second Variety, while The Cartel teamed up with Aaron Paul earlier this year to develop a series based on the life of Jack Daniel.
