Regent nabs rights to 'Devil' docudrama

Film set for release in the summer

Regent Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Roger Spottiswoode's docudrama "Shake Hands With the Devil," about Canadian Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire's experience as a leader of U.N. troops in Rwanda in 1994. Regent will release the film, which debuted at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival, theatrically in the summer.

"Devil," starring Roy Dupuis and Deborah Kara, was produced by Michael Donovan. Regent acquired the rights from Halifax Film.

" 'Shake Hands With the Devil' illustrates a beautiful message of humanity through the perseverance and courageous acts of one man," said Mark Reinhart, GM and executive vp distribution and acquisitions at Regent.

Reinhart negotiated for Regent, with ICM representing Spottiswoode and the film's international rights.
