Relativity Media Renews Output Deal With Alliance Films

Canadian indie distribution giant reupps supply deal with Relativity Media to August 2015.

TORONTO -- Relativity Media has reupped its supply deal with Alliance Films through 2015.

Relativity originally signed with Canada’s largest indie movie distributor in September 2008, and has since sent movies like The Fighter and the Nicolas Cage-starrer Season of the Witch in Alliance’s direction.

The renewed output deal will see Relativity pictures released by Alliance Films in Canada and by Momentum Pictures in the UK. Alliance and Momentum will also handle pictures Relativity acquires for distribution in the Canadian and UK markets.

Upcoming Relativity releases for Alliance include Limitless, starring Robert De Niro, and Immortals, starring Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff and Isabel Lucas.

"Alliance and Momentum have been incredible partners on our past releases and integral in our distribution efforts. We're honored to have such solid partners on our team and collaborating with us," Michael Joe, president of Relativity Media, said.

Separately, yesterday Relativity announced a strategic partnership with Virgin Mobile USA and launched a new lifestyle portal on Facebook called Virgin Mobile Live to offer movie fans what Virgin bills as a “unique Hollywood experience.” Virgin Mobile Live kicked off last July featuring rock, pop and other streamed audio programming.
The new portal offers info on movies and access to things like red carpet events and movie sets. The service kicked off Thursday with an interview with James Cameron about the new 3-D movie Sanctum, which he executive produced. The interview was conducted underwater at the Long Beach Aquarium.
The deal extends Relativity’s relationship with Virgin, which started last year when Virgin CEO Richard Branson made a co-production pact through his Virgin Produced film production arm. As part of the deal, there will be product placement of Virgin Mobile products in  upcoming Relativity movies.
