Relativity Sets Release Dates for 5 Films

The studio, as it plans its post-bankruptcy future, has slated new dates for 'Masterminds,' 'Kidnap,' 'Before I Wake' and more.

As it plans for its future post-bankruptcy, Relativity today announced U.S. theatrical release dates in 2016 for five of seven films that have been sitting on its shelf. On Nov. 18, the company, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July, filed a reorganization plan, which is awaiting the judge's approval, that said the company would release seven films over the next 18 months and that their release would be funded in part by a new revolving credit facility. A court hearing is planning for Dec. 16 to go over the procedure for voting on the Relativity plan.

Many of Relativity's films, like Masterminds, the action comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, had at one time had release  dates, but were then pulled from the schedule as the company went through the bankruptcy proceedings.

The new Relativity line-up consists of:

The Disappointments Rooms, directed by D.J. Caruso and starring Kate Beckinsale, slated for March 25.

Before I Wake, a horror-thriller starring Kate Bosworth and directed by Mike Flanagan, opening April 8.

Halle Berry's Kidnap, in which she stars as a mother who will stop at nothing to recover her kidnapped son, hitting theaters May 13, 2016.

Masterminds, Jared Hess’ comedy starring a strong cast with Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson, which was originally set to open in August and was then moved to October and which now has a new release date of Sept. 30 of next year.

The sequel Strangers 2, a follow-up to Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion movie, invading theaters on Dec. 2.
