Revolver travels to 'Sin Nombre'

Indie distributor targeting August release

More Cannes coverage

CANNES -- U.K. indie distributor Revolver has picked up U.K. and Irish rights to Cary Joji Fukunaga's "Sin Nombre," marking the British company's first buy from Focus Features.

Revolver managing director Justin Marciano and Focus Features senior vp Peter Kujawski did the deal for the picture, which screened at Sundance and SXSW this year, here in the Marche.

The movie follows a beautiful Honduran woman seeking the promise of the U.S. who meets a Mexican gang member struggling to outrun his past.

Revolver aims to release the film across the U.K. and Ireland in August.

Revolver has been busy in the opening days of the market, also snapping up Jason Stutter's "Diagnosis: Death" from "The Flight of the Conchords" team of Bret McKenzie, Rhys Darby, Jemaine Clement and Raybon Kan.

The deal was struck with Australian production and sales company Odin's Eye Entertainment, which is headed by Michael Favelle.

Other titles picked up include "Red Mist" from emerging Belfast-based production outfit Generator Entertainment. Starring Arielle Kebbel, Sarah Carter, MyAnna Buring, Andrew Lee Potts and Martin Compston, "Mist" is directed by Paddy Breathnach.

The Brit distrib also snared Christian James' dark comedy "Big Cats" from Ailie Smith and Richard Kerrigan's production company Nailgun Ltd.

"These films are all smart, commercial and tailor-made for their audience," Revolver head buyer Nick Savva said. "Finding gems like these is exactly why we come to Cannes."
