Richard Jenkins in for 'Eat, Pray, Love'

Julia Roberts stars in the memoir adaptation

Richard Jenkins is joining Julia Roberts in "Eat, Pray, Love," Columbia's adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir. Ryan Murphy is directing, with Plan B and Rod Om Films producing.

The script, which was written by Murphy and Jennifer Salt, centers on a woman (Roberts) who seemingly has it all but comes to the realization that life isn't for her. After a painful divorce, she sets out on a journey of self-discovery around the world.

Jenkins plays a Texan, a man with a dark past who is also on a spiritual journey, whom Roberts' character meets at an Indian ashram.

Columbia picked up the project out of turnaround from Paramount in February.

The majority of the cast is expected to reflect the book's international flavor; the story is set mostly in Italy, India and Bali.

Gersh-repped Jenkins has been making the most of his Oscar-nominated turn in last year's "The Visitor," with "Eat, Pray, Love" marking his third project of the year. He previously signed on for Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's horror project "Cabin in the Woods" and is currently shooting "Rum Diary," the adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel that stars Johnny Depp.
