The fitness guru reportedly was acting oddly, prompting someone in his home to call 911.

Richard Simmons on Sunday said his recent hospital stay was due to dehydration.

TMZ reported Saturday that the fitness guru was acting oddly and someone in his home called 911. Paramedics took him to a hospital to be evaluated.

But a day later, Simmons released a statement through his rep Thomas Estey explaining what happened.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital," he said. "I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here — drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."

In March, reports had surfaced via the NY Daily News that Simmons had become a recluse and was being held against his will in his home. But Simmons, who hasn't been seen in public in about two years, denied those reports, saying on the Today show that "no one is holding me in my house as a hostage."

In the Daily News article, Simmons' former assistant claimed that he is being controlled by his housekeeper Teresa Reveles, his brother and his manager. Simmons denied these accusations via a voice recording on Today: "That's just very silly. Teresa Reveles has been with me for 30 years. It's almost like we're a married couple."

On the NBC morning show, he added that he just wanted to be out of public life for awhile, though he insisted he was in good health. "For all the people that were worrying about me, I want to tell them that I love them with my whole heart and soul and that not to worry, Richard's fine,'' he said. "You haven't seen the last of me. I'll come back, and I'll come back strong."
