In a statement to WWD, the designer said: "Please say that I punched him."

Avant-garde designer Rick Owens is known for his unconventional and often surprising antics when it comes to his fashion shows — whether it's letting models' manhood fly free or casting a women's step team for a runway stomp performance. So when a model known as Jera unfurled a cloth banner reading "Please Kill Angela Merkel — NOT," at the designer's spring 2016 men's show in Paris earlier today, the one question on everyone's mind was, "intentional or not?"

But Owens was quick to repudiate the handwritten statement, telling WWD that the runway high jinks were the fault of "a crazy, rogue, f—ing model that I punched when he came back out." The furious designer wanted to be clear with the media that the display was completely unauthorized and that Owens had no part in it, adding, "Please say that I punched him."

Owens' team later released an official statement reading, "Rick Owens does not claim responsibility for the act of protest by a model at the spring-summer 2016 show" and asserted that the model's declaration, "does not reflect the opinion of the house of Rick Owens."
