“Don’t forget, I’ve got to be an outsider there. I mustn’t come out there as everyone’s mate and schmooze; that’s nauseating. I’ve got to come out there and I’ve got to roast them.”
-- On the controversy surrounding his Golden Globes hosting gig.

"I don't think I should," he blogs. "I don't know what I could do better."

Ricky Gervais says the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has asked him to host the Golden Globes for the third time in 2012.

"The ratings were up again and the organizers asked me to consider a third year," he writes in a comic-book blog featured in Heat magazine and on his website.

"I don't think I should," said Gervais, who came under fire for his controversial jokes. "I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure."

"You know me. Two seasons is enough," he joked, alluding to his two-year turn as David Brent in the U.K. Office. (Steve Carell plays goofy boss Michael Scott in the U.S. version of the show, which Gervais executive produces.)

Even though the president of the HFPA told The Hollywood Reporter Gervais "definitely crossed the line," a rep for the organization admitted, "We loved the show… it was among the best we've ever had and we were pleased."
