The gold-medal winner finished the race a full 11 seconds ahead of the next competitor and quickly became an online sensation.

Swimmer Katie Ledecky broke the world record in the 800-meter freestyle on Friday at the Summer Olympics in Rio, winning the gold medal for her performance and gaining some social media fans along the way.

Ledecky finished the race in 8 minutes, 4.79 seconds, waiting a full 11 seconds for the next swimmer, Jazz Carlin, to finish and claim silver.
