'Riverdale's' K.J. Apa to Star in Rom-Com 'The Last Summer'
Apa, who plays Archie on the Warner Bros.-produced Archie Comics adaptation on The CW, boards the romantic comedy by director William Bindley and Gulfstream Pictures.
Riverdale star K.J. Apa has joined The Last Summer, a romantic comedy from financier Gulfstream Pictures and director William Bindley.
Apa, who plays Archie on the Warner Bros.-produced Archie Comics adaptation on The CW, boards the indie about high school grads whose lives intersect in Chicago during the summer before they enter college in the lead role of Griffin. The script was penned by William Bindley and Scott Bindley, and production is set to get underway in late April.
Mike Karz and Wayne Rice will produce the pic.
"K.J. is one of today's most talented and sough-after young stars both here and abroad, and we are excited to announce he will lead our ensemble cast," Karz said in a statement.
Gulfstream Pictures is the film production and financing company headed by Karz, producer of Valentine’s Day, and William Bindley. Gulfstream, which has an exclusive first-look deal with Warners, is looking to produce and co-finance two films a year and brings with it financing from an initial multimillion-dollar development fund from Redrover Ltd., the Korea-based 3D technology and production company, as well as a consortium of U.S. private-equity money.
Apa, who also appeared in A Dog's Purpose, is repped by UTA.
