The 'Upload' star and the team behind Netflix's 'Code 8' will bring Kate Marchant's YA story for Wattpad to the big screen.

Upload star Robbie Amell is set to star in and produce Float, an adaptation of Kate Marchant's story that originated on the digital storytelling app Wattpad.

Collective Pictures — formerly Colony Pictures, which produced Netflix’s sci-fi hit Code 8 — will also produce Float after it racked up over 25.5 million reads on Wattpad.

The movie adaptation will portray Waverly after her parents’ messy divorce yanked from her life in Alaska to spend the summer in her aunt’s sunny beach town, only to clash with an arrogant, jaded, beach bum named Blake.

“Kate wrote such an incredibly touching and relatable love story. I hope the fans are as excited as I am to see these characters come to life,” Amell, whose screen credits include The Duff, The Flash and The Tomorrow People said in a statement.

Collective’s Netflix sci-fi thriller Code 8 got off the ground by raising $2.4 million via an online crowdfunding campaign. Besides Float, Toronto-based Wattpad has around 50 projects in development.

Those include Deanna Cameron’s What Happened That Night story being adapted by Children of Men screenwriter David Arata, and T.L. Bodine’s The Hound story turned into a movie by Angela LaManna (The Haunting of Bly Manor).

“With a global fanbase and millions of reads, Float is an incredible story that audiences everywhere will fall in love with,” Aron Levitz, head of Wattpad Studios, predicted in a statement.

Collective Pictures’ Jeff Chan, Amell and Chris Paré will produce Float, alongside Wattpad’s Levitz and Jamie D. Greenberg. Wattpad’s Allen Lau will executive produce, along with Sarah Timmins of Black Birds Entertainment.
