Robert Zemeckis Inks Overall Deal at Paramount TV

Paramount is expanding its relationship with Robert Zemeckis with a television deal.

The studio has inked a two-year, first-look deal with the Oscar-winning filmmaker, Jack Rapke and their production company, Compari Entertainment.

Under the pact, Paramount TV's first collaboration with Zemeckis, Rapke and Jackie Levine, Compari's executive vp, is a drama inspired by the best-selling novel The Fermata,  to be written by David Hollander.

“Not only is Bob one of the all-time greatest filmmakers, but he has been an important member of the Paramount family for more than 20 years,” said Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. “His ability to tell and capture a story so brilliantly on any screen is second to none, and we look forward to partnering creatively with him, Jack and their team on the television side of our business.”

Zemeckis' relationship with Paramount Pictures includes the 1994 Oscar winner Forrest Gump, which won the filmmaker the best director award. He also teamed with the film studio in 2012 for Flight, which starred Denzel Washington and garnered two Oscar nominations.

Paramount TV has several projects in the works, including an adaptation of The Alienist, Caleb Carr's novel; Lindbergh, based on A. Scott Berg's biography; NARC, a crime drama pilot from Joe Carnahan; the Terminator co-production with Skydance; and a re-imagined version of The Truman Show. The company also is adapting for TV the Oscar-winning film Ghost and has a multi-project deal with Craig Brewer.
