"Our intention was not to be insensitive"

ABC News was bashed on social media on Monday night for its decision to post a live stream of video from outside Robin Williams' home in the wake of the actor's death.

Even thought the live stream was on ABC News' website for less than an hour, numerous tweets were posted condemning ABC for being insensitive, often accompanied by screen grabs of ABC's website, featuring a breaking news title bar highlighting the live stream.

The social media reaction from ABC News' audience helped the network realize they need to pull down the feed, a source close to the situation told The Hollywood Reporter.

On Tuesday, the network's news division apologized for carrying the live feed.

"When we realized there was no news value to the live stream, we took it down immediately," ABC News said in a statement. "Our intention was not to be insensitive to his family, friends and fans, and for that we apologize."
