'Rock of Ages' Star Alec Baldwin on Russell Brand's Sex Appeal: 'He Has a Lot of Magical Powers' (Video)
The actor tells THR that the biggest challenge he faced while filming was not singing or dancing, but fending off all the women who wanted to “BEEP” his co-star.
It may be an odd pairing, but co-stars Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand share an on-screen bromance-turned-romance in Warner Bros.’ Rock of Ages – the Adam Shankman-directed film adaptation of the beloved Broadway show.
For Baldwin, it was easy to fall for Brand’s charm. The actor told reporters at the film’s Hollywood premiere that his newly-single co-star has “a lot of magical powers.”
“Russell has such powers,” he said. “When Russell would come on set, all the women were adjusting their tops and their hair.”
“Every time he came to work, all the women wanted to BEEP him,” he added. “All the men wanted to be him.”
But when it comes to audiences, there’s another actor who will be stealing the spotlight.
“We have great people in this,” Baldwin said, before singing the praises of Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Mary J. Blige and Catherine Zeta-Jones. “But the person that’s going to blow your mind is Tom [Cruise]. Tom is great in this.”
Cruise embraced his inner rocker for the role of Stacee Jaxx, a rock god worshipped by audiences worldwide, with a little help from Glee and Rock of Ages executive music producer Adam Anders.
“Scary as hell,” is how Anders described the daunting task of teaching the A-lister how to sing.
“I went over to his house to hear him sing and I didn’t know what to expect at all,” he said. “He started singing and he didn’t know what he was doing, but his voice was unbelievably powerful and he could sing as high as he wanted to. I was like ‘We’re good! Now we just gotta work.’”
