'Rock Band' adds album downloads

SAN DIEGO -- MTV Games announced that fans of its hit console title "Rock Band" will now be able to download full albums, beginning with Judas Priest's heavy metal classic "Screaming for Vengeance."

"Vengeance" will befollowed by The Cars debut album in May and "Doolittle" by The Pixies in June. The full album downloads will cost the equivalent of $14.99 and be available on Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store.

"There's been an enormous amount of consumer request for full albums but it's also very much in line with our original conception of 'Rock Band' as a true music platform," said Alex Rigopulos, co-founder of Rock Band developer Harmonix.

Paul DeGooyer, senior vp for MTV Music Networks & Logo group, added consumers have already download 8 million songs for 'Rock Band,' noting, "This shows us that the universe of Rock Band can hold all types of musical genres."

Rigopulos said he expect additional albums to be released regularly alongside singles, adding the music industry is now enthusiastically behind the music game genre. "It's now well established that a presence on 'Rock Band' directly drive sales of recorded music," he said.
