Rodriguez hired for 'Saturday Early'

NEW YORK -- CBS News hired Miami anchor Maggie Rodriguez for "The Saturday Early Show," the network said Thursday.

She'll replace Tracy Smith, who has anchored "The Saturday Early Show" since August 2005. Smith will become a national correspondent for "The Early Show," "the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" and "CBS News Sunday Morning." CBS News is still looking for another permanent co-anchor for "The Saturday Early Show" after Russ Mitchell left the early-morning weekend shift in January for the weekday "Early Show."

Rodriguez has been lead anchor of the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts of WFOR-TV, CBS' owned-and-operated station in Miami. She'll move to the network on June 1.

The Emmy-winning anchor was anchor of midday news at KABC-TV in Los Angeles from 1994 to 2000, a reporter for Univision in Miami from 1991 to 1004 and was an associate producer, field producer and assignment editor at WLTV-TV in Miami from 1989 to 1990.
