Rogers gets OK for Baseball TV

Only 10% of programming will be live games

TORONTO -- Cable giant Rogers Communications, which owns and runs the Toronto Blue Jays baseball club, has secured a regulatory nod to launch Baseball TV as a 24-hour digital channel to cover America's favorite pastime.

Toronto-based Rogers received the green light Monday from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, which ruled that the sports channel will not compete with existing general cable sport channels the Sports Network and Rogers' own Sportsnet service.

Only 10% of Baseball TV will be live baseball games, with the rest given over to baseball-related programming and analysis from the majors to minor leagues.

The launch of Canada's Baseball TV channel coincides with the arrival of the Baseball Channel stateside from Major League Baseball.
