The gay-rights drama opens in theaters on Sept. 25.

Disaster-movie director Roland Emmerich looks to destroy walls of injustice with his latest film, Stonewall.

The first trailer for the film, which depicts the 1969 Stonewall riots, shows fictional Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) being introduced to New York's underground gay-club scene. The clip shows tensions running high between the citizens of Christopher Street and the local police department as raids become increasingly violent.

The Roadside Attractions feature also stars Ron Perlman, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Joey King. The film was written by Jon Robin Baitz.

Stonewall, which will have its world premiere as a gala presentation at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival, is slated to open in theaters on Sept. 25.
