Rolf Probala new fest director for Rose d'Or

50th anniversary edition runs Sept. 18-22, 2010

BERLIN -- Swiss television and media veteran Rolf Probala will take over as director at European television festival the Rose d'Or in time for the event's 50th anniversary next year.

Probala replaces current head Urban Frye, who ran the festival for the last three years.

Probala worked for several years as a producer for Swiss television before switching to PR. Most recently he organized the 175th anniversary celebration for Ringier, the Swiss media giant which will be a major sponsor of the Rose d'Or event starting next year.

One of Europe's best-known media events, the Rose d'Or and its high-gloss awards celebrate excellence in television programming from around the world. Originally founded in the Riveria resort of Montreux in 1961, the Rose d'Or relocated to the Swiss mountain town of Lurcerne in 2003.

The 50th Rose d'Or runs Sept. 18-22, 2010.
