Rome fest: No movie, no red carpet

October event cracking down on attendees

ROME -- If you don't have a film at the newly revamped Rome Film Festival, don't expect to be on the event's red carpet.

The three-year-old festival -- which is reinventing itself this year in the wake of a change in leadership -- will suspend its policy of allowing well-known figures in town for reasons unrelated to a film screening that night to appear on the red carpet. The practice was allowed in the past as a way of increasing the festival's star power.

The Rome event is set for Oct. 22-31.
