Rome fest's business street winds up

Participants, buyer numbers, countries represented all up

ROME -- The Rome International Film Festival's market event concluded Monday with organizers calling it a success and early numbers indicating that it managed to grow again compared to previous levels.

All told, 723 participants were in town for the five-day Business Street market event, organizers said, around a hundred more than last year. There were 280 buyers on hand, 20 more than a year ago, and a total of 51 countries represented, compared to 33 last time.

The Business Street transforms hotels on Rome's historic Via Veneto into an informal market that organizers say is increasingly popular with buyers and sellers.

Organizers said that in 2010 the event will again take place over the first five days of the festival, which concludes on Friday.
