The Rome Film Festival has added a number of films and special events to its 2017 lineup as part of the Alice nella Citta independent sidebar.

Orlando Bloom will present his new film, Romans, as a special event at the festival. Directed by the Shammasian brothers, Romans stars Bloom as a laborer who is forced to face his childhood sexual abuse at the hands of a priest after being hired to demolish the church where it took place.

Dakota Fanning will come to Rome for the international premiere of her film Please Stand By from Ben Lewin, which will screen in competition as part of the Alice nella Citta (Alice in the City) independent sidebar. Fanning stars as a young autistic woman who runs away from her caregiver to apply for a writing competition.

The sidebar, directed by Gianluca Giannelli and Fabia Bettini, is dedicated to cinema for younger generations.

A total of 12 international works will compete for the sidebar's main prize, which will be awarded by a jury of 20 boys and girls from all over Italy. Trudie Styler will serve as president of the jury for the Golden Camera Award Taodue, which honors a first or second feature.

Other special events include screenings of Trudie Styler's Freak Show, Paul King's Paddington 2, Zoe Cassavetes' Junior, and Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton's Frozen — The Adventures of Olaf

Karl Jacob's Cold November, Marc Meyer's My Friend Dahmer, Dave McCary's Brigsby Bear and Sara Driver's Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat will screen in the Panorama section.

David Soren's Captain Underpants — The First Epic Movie and Junji Schimizu's Mazinga Z — Infinity will screen out of competition.

Alice nella Citta runs Oct. 26 to Nov. 5 parallel to the Rome Film Fest.
