'Romeo & Juliet' Trailer Starring Hailee Steinfeld Debuts (Video)

"Downton Abbey" creator Julian Fellowes adapted the script for the project, which Relativity will release in October.

The first trailer for Relativity's Romeo & Juliet starring Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth as the star-crossed lovers has debuted.

The project, from a script by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes, is clearly aiming at introducing William Shakespeare's tale of forbidden love to a new generation.

True Grit star Steinfeld plays the young Juliet Capulet, who meets Booth's Romeo Montague at a party only to discover that their families are mortal enemies.

The film is directed by Carlo Carlei, an Italian director perhaps best known for the 1992 festival film Flight of the Innocent, and also stars Paul Giamatti, Stellan Skarsgard, Homeland's Damian Lewis and Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick.

Relativity is releasing the film on Oct.11.
