TOKYO -- It was the local "Rookies" who were back, knocking "Terminator Salvation" into third as they returned to top the weekend boxoffice again.

Sony's "Terminator" bowed at no.1 last week, which Paramount's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" couldn't manage this weekend, playing second fiddle to the all-conquering high school baseball "Rookies."

Distributed by Toho, and produced by Tokyo Broadcasting System from its hit drama series, "Rookies" has now broken the ¥6 billion ($62.5 million) mark in its 23-day run. It took "Departures" 31 weeks and a foreign-language Oscar to rack up the same boxoffice.

"Transformers" opening included three new Imax theaters, with the Kawasaki 109 Cinema -- opened June 19 -- taking $81,000 over the weekend, the highest take of any screen nationwide.
