'Black Mass' helmer Scott Cooper is directing.

Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike is joining Christian Bale in the Western drama Hostiles, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The British actress will star in the Scott Cooper-directed film, with production to get underway in summer. Jon Lesher and Ken Kao are producing Hostiles, with Waypoint Entertainment financing the indie pic.

The story centers on a Native American-hating soldier, nearing retirement, who is given one last assignment: to escort an Indian chief back to his Montana reservation. In the process, which includes coming across a young widow and fighting back attacks by Comanche tribes, he learns to respect the race he hates.

The screenplay for Hostiles was penned by late scribe Donald Stewart, who won an Oscar for co-writing the 1982 Jack Lemmon drama Missing and also worked on The Hunt for Red October (1990) and Patriot Games (1992). Cooper rewrote the script.

Pike is repped by CAA, Magnolia Entertainment and in the U.K. by United Agents.
