Rose Byrne Speaks Out About Her SAG Awards White Jumpsuit
The Bridesmaids star enjoys being one of the long Hollywood fashion risk-takers
Bridesmaids' (and Damages') Rose Byrne was out and about in New York, getting ready for fall 2012 fashion week (which starts Feb. 9), when the website Fashionista.com caught up with her, and wanted to know how she came to wear the super cool Elie Saab white jumpsuit to the SAG Awards. Some people loved it (like Fash Track), some despised it, but everybody noticed, that's for sure.
Byrne explained she wanted to wear a suit, because she had a vision for her hair that demanded a different kind of look: "I was trying to do a bit of Michelle Pfeiffer Scarface meets Anna Wintour-inspired hairstyle. I had tried on this jumpsuit a few years earlier and I ended up wearing something else to an awards ceremony and my stylist Penny [Lovell] was like, what about that jumpsuit from Elie Saab? And so, luckily we could get it back and we just went from there."
As to the variety of opinions, Byrne was very cool. "I totally knew it was not going to be received well by everybody, so I was prepared for that. What was really lovely on the night was that I had so many compliments from people at the event and that was really nice -- but I went in thinking it would be risky. No risk, no reward, isn’t that what they say? So it’s fashion. It should be fun! So it’s good to take a chance."
Can somebody please make this girl an Oscar presenter? This is exactly what the Oscars needs -- somebody to blow the whistle and rev up the excitement on the red carpet. Let's hope she's back for Bridesmaids 2.
