RTL takes over RTL II copyright protection

To collect royalties from third-party users

COLOGNE, Germany -- Leading German commercial channel RTL has taken over the duties of copyright protection for programs produced by cable network RTL II.

RTL will act as a collection agency and copyright cop, collecting royalties from third-party users and acting to prevent unfair use of RTL II programming.

RTL II imports much of its schedule but produces a number of shows -- mainly reality and music events -- in house. RTL II previously went through independent collection agency VG Media.

RTL controls 35.9% of RTL 2. Herbert Kloiber's Tele Munchen Group holds 31.5%, publisher Heinrich Bauer 31.5% and publisher Burda 1.1%.
