Russell Brand inks book deal

Two-book agreement with HarperCollins

British Comedian Russell Brand has inked a two-book deal with HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide for $3.5 million, with his first book from the publisher set to hit U.K. bookstores in Christmas 2008.

HarperCollins also acquired Brand's best selling biography, "My Booky Wook," which sold more than 600,000 hardcover copies in the U.K. and spent seven weeks at the top of the London Sunday Times' bestseller list.

While Brand is well-known in the U.K., his break through role in the U.S. wasn't until he played the off-beat new boyfriend of Sarah Marshall in rom-com "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." He recently wrapped the Adam Sandler comedy "Bedtime Stories," for Disney, set for release on Dec. 25 in the U.S. and Dec. 26 in the U.K.

"I am very pleased to get money for writing these books as I was going to write them anyway," Brand said of the book deal.

Added Victoria Barnsley, HarperCollins' CEO and publisher for the U.K. and international, "No matter what the subject, he has a one-off take on it, which is guaranteed to make you laugh. It's a real coup for HarperCollins to have signed him."

Brand is repped by Endeavor and John Noel Management in the U.K.
