Russia sells first cartoon series to U.S.

The CW will air 'Smeshariki' as 'Go Go Riki'

MOSCOW -- Rights to the Russian cartoon series "Smeshariki" have been sold in the U.S., making it the first animated series produced in Russia to enter the domestic market.

The CW will air the series under the title "Go Go Riki" beginning in November.

"Smeshariki" is produced by the Peterburg animation studio, formed specifically for the project in 2003.

Rights to the series also have been sold to Finland, and negotiations with channels from Germany and Spain are nearly complete, the studio said.
