Russian firm to bail out movies

Sistema has $20 mil to invest in stalled projects

MOSCOW -- Russian World Studios, owned by local industrial group Sistema, has offered to invest $20 million in recently suspended Russian film projects in exchange for shares in future rights sales.

"We are ready to invest in projects where more than 50% of all work has been implemented," RWS general director Yuri Sapronov told Russian business daily Kommersant on Wednesday.

Since September, more than 70 film projects in various stages have been suspended or canceled in Russia.
