Russian Producers Announce AFM Deals
Animated films attracted the highest interest among prospective buyers
Russian film companies, including Timur Bekmambetov's Bazelevs, have announced successful deals struck at the American Film Market. Most deals concern animated films, including the popular Snow Queen franchise.
Bazelevs struck preliminary deals for its comedy Paws, Bones & Rock'n'roll, which is scheduled for release in 2015 for French-speaking territories along with North and Latin America. Another Bazelevs project, the feature-length animated film Alisa Knows What To Do!, also attracted interest from potential buyers, producers say.
"Currently we negotiate deals in North and Latin America, India and the Middle East," Elena Malenkina, creative producer, said in a statement.
Wizart Animation sold rights to The Snow Queen 2, a sequel to an animated film released in more than 60 countries, to Japan and Indonesia. The film was recently nominated for Golden Globes. Rights to another project by the studio, Sheep and Wolves, slated for release next year, were sold to Australia.
Planeta Inform Film Distribution opened the presales of the animated film Quackerz 3D, produced by Rome Studio. The film is to be made in English, as it is mainly intended for the international market, and the studio plans to announce Hollywood actors who will voice the characters next month.
