Russia's first 3-D TV channel to launch

Oct. 15 bow for NTV Plus, Panasonic venture

MOSCOW -- Russia's first 3-D television channel, which is being launched by the country's top satellite operator NTV Plus in cooperation with Panasonic, is scheduled to go on the air on Oct. 15, NTV Plus said.

During the first year, the investment in the channel is to be just above $3 million.

The new channel is to originally focus on sports, particularly on soccer, from reruns of FIFA 2010 matches to live broadcasts of national championships and Champion League games.

Gradually, movies and entertainment programs are to be added.

Although there could be some shortage of non-sports content, it is unlikely to last long, as 3-D is booming in Russia and more and more 3-D movie projects are being launched.
