Ryder joins Waters' 'Sex'

Winona Ryder has nailed the starring role in Daniel Waters' "Sex and Death 101," a new comedy recently acquired by Starz Home Entertainment label Anchor Bay Entertainment. It will be the first time the two have worked together since the cult classic "Heathers," which Waters wrote, in 1989.

The film stars Simon Baker (CBS' "The Guardian," "The Devil Wears Prada") as a womanizing businessman whose world is turned upside down by an e-mail that lists the names of all his past and future sexual partners. Ryder plays the mysterious heroine who brings justice to men who commit sex crimes. "Sex and Death" also stars Leslie Bibb ("Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby"), Julie Bowen ("Boston Legal"), Sophie Monk ("Click," "Date Movie"), Mindy Cohn ("The Facts of Life"), Dash Mihok ("Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang"), Patton Oswalt ("Ratatouille") and Neil Flynn ("Scrubs").

Waters, whose credits also include writing duty on "Batman Returns," won a best director nod at this year's Seattle Film Festival.

Aaron Craig Geller is executive producing the film, which is slated for an early 2008 release, with Jerry Jacobs as a co-producer. Avenue Pictures' Cary Brokaw also produced alongside Lizzie Friedman and Greg Little of Sandbar Pictures.
