Julia Roberts and Sarah Hyland show that soft shades can make a big impact.

While the strong smoky eye may have been the eye makeup of choice for the Golden Globes, makeup artists lightened up for the SAG Awards by emphasizing their clients' eyes with pretty pastels.

To complement Julia Roberts' raspberry-hued Valentino jumpsuit, Genevieve Herr opted for soft violet on the eyes. She used purple shades in Lancome's Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Amethyst Glam to create the soft smoky eye and defined the lashlines with the Lancome Liner Design Long Wear Calligraphy Gel EyeLiner in Purple Jewels, a less intense option than using black liner.

Both Modern Family's Sarah Hyland and Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie wore shades from Dior's new spring eye shadow palette, the 5-Couleurs Eyeshadow Trianon Edition in Pastel Fontanges. To coordinate with Hyland's Marchesa dress, Allan Avendano used the soft pink in the eye shadow palette from the center of Hyland's eyes to the inner corners and blended it up to the brow bone with the palette's cream shade. He finished with the silver shadow on the inner corners of the eyes. Likewise, Monika Blunder used the pale shades in the palette as highlighter on Leslie's eyes, giving the actress a soft, open-eyed look that pastels are so favored for.

Already a huge hit on spring 2014 runways, including Giorgio Armani, Prada and Marc Jacobs, pastels are in place to have a major moment in the coming months.
