SAG Awards Beauty: Ponytails Prevail, Again
Following their sweeping appearance at the Golden Globes, ponytails are back on the SAG Awards carpet.
The SAG Awards are known for being slightly more laid back than other awards shows when it comes to style (though this year French couture is reigning supreme), and if the stars hitting the red carpet this afternoon are any indication, hair is no exception.
Easy, slicked-back and straight locks have been a big look, sported by, for instance, Emilia Clarke and Stephanie Beatriz — who bumped her straight hair up with a subtle pompadour.
The somewhat severe style suits the actress’ off-the-shoulder and strapless necklines, giving a modern appeal to otherwise forgettable dresses.
Similar to the ubiquitous ponytails seen at the Golden Globes, slightly sporty pulled-back hair has also popped up several times on the SAG Awards red carpet.
Julianna Margulies’ ponytail is an easy, low-slung style with a few pieces of hair casually falling into her face — something different for the actress who usually wears her hair completely pulled back and off her face.
Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany’s ponytail has an intricate twist on one side and the pulled-up hair shows off her amazing ear crawler earring. The ear crawler and cuff are peppering several other actress’ ears this evening and in Maslany’s case add a very refreshing edge to her black-and-white Oscar de la Renta gown.
Reese Witherspoon, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep are all also wearing traditional pulled-back ponytails, proving that even if the vibe of the red carpet is a little laid back, a ponytail can still look perfectly polished.
