'Salvaje' earns top Morelia prize

MEXICO CITY -- Gustavo Gamou's documentary "La Palomilla Salvaje" (The Wild Squad), a depiction of two wannabe bull riders, won top prize at the fourth Morelia International Film Festival.

"In the Pit," an award-winning documentary by Juan Carlos Rulfo, and Francisco Vargas' feature "El Violin" split the audience award at the festival, which closed Saturday.

The highlight of the weeklong film fest was the Mexico premiere of Guillermo del Toro's dark fantasy "Pan's Labyrinth." Del Toro, who attended the event with actress Ivana Baquero, received a 10-minute standing ovation for his latest feature.
